BIGKANU is a 80 foot, triple hulled, all aluminium motor sailor, with capacity for 9 singles or 6 singles and 3 couples in 9 private, sliding louvre cabins... there is categorically no boat like Bigkanu anywhere in Asia. We are a wide platform that sits flat in any seas. With knife blade hulls, solar array proliferation, and a unique sail configuration, we are all about getting a long way out there, without cripling fuel bills. BIGKANU is built tough in aluminium, with a shallow draft and a beach-able hull, which means this 80 foot boat gets into places where few other boats dare to go. Backing the boat right onto a beach opens up a whole new feel to a holiday. We like to tuck into anchorages where the corals and forests converge.

Description
The purpose behind Bigkanu is simple. Equatorial waters are different. The best places are shallow and fringed with coral. We want to access these best anchorages. Currents and swell make trips rolly. But we wanted super stability. So the solution was a luxury version of a traditional outrigger canoe...wide, stable and fuel efficient, with solar house power. With 9 or 10 guests, no one wants to share a cabin with a stranger, so we give everyone a breezy private cabin, which, if you choose, can open up by day with slide away louvers. And we are all about curiosity, so we carry twin tenders, paddle boards and kayak.
Bigkanu is a big platform, 24m long (79ft) with a span of 12m. Bigkanu was made by a New Zealander's yard in Surabaya to a higher standard of safety and a higher cost than most of Indonesia's fleet, and at 24m long and 12m wide, with a draft of 90cm, it was squeeze getting the boat out of the factory.
BIGKANU is an amazing sea platform for all sorts of oceanic adventure, and we are a sailing boat not just a motor boat, with a radical lateen sail rig. Two big trimaran tenders are winched aboard between the cross arms for added exploration power. BIGKANU is a blend of traditional outrigger canoe, with a sense of Waterworld space ship. BIGKANU is a simple traditional boat design, reinvented in a NASA kind of way.
It's nice to get some private space on a boat, so no-one need share a cabin (unless you want to cuddle up with your partner). There are 9 cabins...3 with double beds. Its also nice to enjoy a big open cabin after breakfast, so part of each cabin has a sliding concertina wall to transform its space. It beats squeezing into catermeran berths or twin share cabins. There are couple of conventional flushing toilets, and two inside/outside showers. We all live at water level where jumping over the side is as easy as getting back on board, so no one is below decks, and with dozens of big, swing open, hatch windows, the whole experience aboard is refreshing. Bigkanu is made for adventure and water sports, for those wanting a unique expeditionary experience.

TECHNICAL
- Bigkanu weighs about 17 tons, carrying 1.5 tons of water, and 1.5 tons of diesel.
- The boat has around 4000watts of solar arrays, and a small generator for cloudy days and high use demand periods.
- The boat has an all-aluminium body, 6mm thick in the main hull, with a series of compartments and goods loading hatches at bow and stern.
- Two 6m alloy trimarn tenders winch up into the cross arms, with 15Hp Yamaha Outboards.
- The main engine is a 110Hp Yanmar , turbo charged, intercooled, with twin alternators and with direct drive ZF gearbox.
- The main hull has an underwater beam of just 1.2m, the hull design being key to long distance economy.
- Twin 13m outrigger hulls and their cross arms support an unusual lateen rig, slug under an ‘A’Frame. The boat runs one very large main lateen sail and a smaller jib.
- The roof deck is also a shower water collector.
- The boat has a separate plumbing system for salt water, drinking water and shower water.
- The navigation, VHF radio, radar and autopilots are SIMRAD and Navionics based.
- We carry a 20 person liferafts, an Satellite EPIRB (linked to Canberra Australia).
- The boat is Indonesian flagged, with Singapore based manager.
- The draft is 90cm and the rudder and prop are fully protected to allow for collision or beaching. The boat has its own truck trolley launching system.
- There is Quick bow thruster and anchor winch.
- Unloaded the boat’s peak flatwater speed is 9.5knots. We cruise longer distances between 6.5 and 7 knots.
- The cabin spaces are heavily insulated to insure the interior is generally 3 degrees cooler, inside that out.
- The boat has a crew of captain, chef, host and engineer and is geared to 12 guests and 4 crew.
- 60m2 of Trampoline nets surround the boat.
- The boat is very stable, and seasickness is minimal, at 12m wide, and the boat whilst enduring getting water slap, does not roll, so glass bottles can sit on a table undisturbed for long sea passages.
- The refrigeration for drinks is in normal lift top freezer, with the main refrigeration being a large domestic fridge.
- The boat has 8 200Amp batteries and 3000 watts of inverters power, a small quite 500watt Honda portable generator, and a larger 2000watt Honda for the 1000 watt cable winch to raise the tenders.
- There is a concealed overhead TV and DVD.
- There are two sound system aboard, the Pioneer via an 8 speaker wired system, and second powerful portable system.
